Acrylic bread slicer with wooden crumb catcher. Crumbs fall neatly into removable catcher. This is an adequate no-frills manual bread slicer, and adequate is the operative word. The crumb catcher eliminates messes, making this slicer a much cleaner option than slicing bread on a cutting board. Also, you can achieve uniform 1/2-inch slices; the only caveat is that you can’t adjust the slicer to cut any thicker or thinner. Use your longest serrated knife when cutting, because a knife that just barely spans the width of the slicing tray will keep slipping out of the acrylic slicing guides. The guides have no top support and tend to wobble a bit as you slice. They also have inexplicably high sides; you’d have to use triple the leavening to make bread that reaches the top of them. Despite its design limitations, the Norpro deluxe bread slicer is easy to assemble and maintain and has an attractive overall look. –Carol Gnojewski

3 Stars Norpro Bread Slicer
The slicer works well. I am a little disappointed that it slices such think slices, my homemade bread would be better if the slices were a little thinner. Also, I didn’t think about how much room this takes up, I have very little extra storage space in my kitchen. Other than that, I like it. Sue

5 Stars Bread slicing frame
Well thought-out design, easy to use, store, and clean. Materials and cnstruction are strong and simple.

2 Stars Wish this worked
This is cute. I sure wish it worked. It is way too wide for my bread and my knife. I figure it is so wide so it can fit a variety of breads but I have to anchor my loaf when slicing… and doesn’t help that my knife isn’t long enough. Very frustrating to use.

The tines make little larger than 1/2 inch slices -too thick for my liking. The tines are also very flimsy. Haven’t had any break yet but I am Very careful.

Cute idea but doesn’t work.

5 Stars Love it! Love it! Love it!
This item works so well. It is easy to use and you are able to cut the bread evenly. Highly recommend this item for bread machine users!

3 Stars Bread slicing guide
It’s kind of misleading, the title: Bread Slicer and Guide. It doesn’t slice anything, but it is a guide. The only thing is, it’s too wide. When I bake a loaf of bread, it never comes out as wide as this thing is. The bread knife is even too short to go all the way across from the first slice guide to the other. So, my mate removed one of the guides. I now hold my loaf with my hand, and using only the guide closest to me, I cut the bread. It should be about 2 inches narrower.

5 Stars Herb Keeper
My wife loves this item. She was specifically looking for something to store her fresh asparagus in, and she says that it works great.

5 Stars Smart Decision
My Cilantro lasts for weeks in this container. It works best without water. So I don’t add water at all. I am buying 2 more of these to keep Parsley and Asparagus.

4 Stars This really works
We love fresh basil and this herb keeper will keep it fresh outside of the refrigerator for over two weeks. It also works very well with asparagus in the refrigerator. This order was for my second keeper. My first ended up cracking when my husband put it in the dish washer, so don’t do that.

4 Stars Lid.
My lid wasn’t black. Its limegreen. Just saying.

Also, if you think it has a center divider like the rest of them do, you’re wrong. They just all cram together in there. No dividers.

3 Stars mine have cracked open, too
When I bought my first one, I thought it worked so well that I bought several more to give to family and friends. But after a couple of years, the cylinder cracked apart and would no longer screw on. I bought another, thinking I might have somehow mistreated it, but the same thing happened, even sooner. For the time being, I’m holding it together with rubber bands. But I think I might try a competing, slightly different product next time.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Stars Dont buy it, broke 2 weeks later
the peaces that hold and snap on the parts are plastic and all 3 of them broke off after 2 weeks of use, so I cant attached the attachments, I have to hold em by hand contacted to the motor, if you buy this blender which other then that is very good, get the metal one , thats a lil more expensive.

5 Stars Whatta Blender!
I’ve gone through maybe 5 hand blenders. They have lasted me 2 years at the most. I burn the motors up with heavy blending, mostly crushing ice cubes to make smoothies. The last one, a 350 watt Oster didn’t even make it through a year.

I’ve had this one for about a month, and it shows every sign of going the distance. I haven’t been gentle with mine.

Its two best features are the 550 watt motor which hardly even gets warm during the heaviest lengthiest chores, and the highly convenient speed control. The changable four bladed cutter is also very nice. Even the mini food processor which I initially took to be a throw-away, has turned out to be well-designed and useful.

I recommend that when you first try it out, that you run it on the speed control at a setting of 2. In the highest setting of 5 or Turbo mode, it will tug on your hand so strongly while blending that it may be hard to resist. It is not excessively noisy. Timid people may even find it a little scary at its highest setting due to its ability to tug on its handle during heavy blending.

Due to its ability to blend thick mixtures at maximum speed, you may find that it blends familiar items so that they are smoother than you have ever experienced. It can definately make quick work of just about any blending task.

Like most other small home appliances this one is made in China. It’s a little odd to me that it is marketed by a company that seems to be headquartered in Venezuela. It appears from some other comments that they stand behind their products and do have a viable US presence. 15 months is a pretty warranty for a product like this. The portion of the instructions that are in English are a lot skinnier than the ones in Spanish, but what does it take to run a blender and food processor?

4 Stars Powerful hand blender
A bit on the heavy side, but it has power to spare. It’s almost too powerful at times. The only annoying thing is that it’s covered in stickers written in spanish or italian, and they are difficult to remove. All in all, I recommend this anyone who needs a good hand blender. It can even turn ice cubes into slush in no time.

5 Stars Miallegro Hand Blender
This is a very convenient blender to have in our kitchen. The clean-up is easy and quick. Mixing, chopping, blending it does it all with no mess or hard to clean containers.

4 Stars Good product, excellent warranty.
I purchased this in college after I missed using my Mom’s Braun hand blender at home.

I hadn’t been able to find an affordable, but powerful hand blender until I came across this company. With the good reviews, I bought it immediately.

I used it for about a month and found that it did everything I wanted it to do. It was more than plenty powerful. I was a little disappointed that warning labels and most documentation was not in English. The different blades provided are supposed to be attached to the blender depending on what you are blending. It’s a little difficult to attach and remove the blade with the small metal hand tool they’ve provided. So, I usually just usually leave the grinder blade on at all times - seems to work well with most foods.

The only poor design of the product is the mechanism used to attach the different attachments (e.g. the whip) to the blender. It’s not very intuitive and takes a while getting used to because of the awkward design. There are three plastic ‘tabs’ that are used to secure the blender with its attachments. After the first month, one of these tabs broke off when I was attaching the chopper.

Very disappointed with the quality of the plastic, I called customer support. They said it was a common problem and that they would ship a new unit out immediately with a prepaid return label. I could use the return label to ship the broken unit back to them. They also said they would do this as many times as necessary (all at no cost) during the 15 months the product is under warranty. Now that’s a pretty amazing warranty service!

The customer representative also said that the 9080 model (metallic model) is a little less powerful and more expensive. However it still uses the same plastic tabs inside which cause the same problem. She said it does happen a little less in that model, but I’m not sure of that.

Hope this helps!

The OXO Good Grips Silicone Collapsible Colander stands up to all your straining tasks, then collapses flat for easy storage. The Colander stands securely upright when expanded, making it ideal for draining pasta and rinsing fruits and vegetables. It can also be immersed in boiling water to quickly blanch or parboil vegetables like broccoli, green beans, snap peas, spinach and edamame. The Colander’s non-slip handles provide a firm grip while transporting and shaking. When collapsed, the Colander is less than 2” in height and fits easily inside the dishwasher and kitchen drawers or cabinets. Simply press the center to expand the Colander. With hands on the outer rim, push the center back in to collapse it. At 3.5-quart capacity and 9” in diameter, the Colander fits well inside standard 5 and 6 quart stockpots.

5 Stars Best I’ve seen
I’ve looked at a bunch of silicone colanders in stores. They tend to suffer from a couple of problems. The first is that they tend to have too few holes to drain water quickly. This sounds like a silly complaint, but it’s really annoying to have a slow-draining colander when, for example, rinsing cooked pasta. This colander has plenty of holes, and consequently drains very quickly.

The second problem silicone colanders tend to have is that they are often flimsy and collapse easily. This Oxo stands up solidly on its own, and the metal frame is heavy enough to feel very solid.

Highly recommended!

5 Stars The 2nd silicone revolution
Really when you stop and think about it this is really the 2nd revolution for silicone, the first obviously had nothing to do with men or the kitchen. I am glad to say that this 2nd silicone revolution is much healthier and much better for your kitchen. If you have no idea what I am talking about simply stroll down the kitchen section at any large retailer these days and you will immediately see what I am talking about. Silicone has taken the kitchen by storm and that is a very good thing. Collapsible colanders, cookie sheets, baking mats, muffin sheets, Bread Pans and even a lot of the kitchen utensils like spatulas, pancake flippers, cookie spatulas, regular flippers, etc. are getting in on the fun.

The first thing my wife said when she saw a lot of these flexible silicone baking products is “Wont they melt?”. The answer is no, not as long as you keep them from touching anything over 500-600 degrees and the vast majority of stuff you cook in the kitchen stays well below that temperature. So whats so great about silicone? First its non stick all the time which means no having to use butter or Pam if you dont want to and 2nd is it makes cleaning the products much much easier. Of course one of the best perks for silicone is that its flexible thus you can collapse, fold or roll up a lot of these products thus they take up a lot less space in your cupboards. Last but not least they just look and feel cool.

As for how they perform, well I have tested quite a large assortment of these products including this colander and I have been extremely impressed. Lets face it Kitchen gadgets must serve a practical purpose otherwise they will wind up staying in the cupboard or drawer. Well I don’t think anyone will try and argue against the merits and importance of a colander but as most people know the one thing that can be improved upon with this particular item is the space it takes up in your cupboard and that is where this colander destroys all others. Simply give it a little downward force and it pops out. Push it down on the counter and it collapses into less than a half an inch thick. Its nothing short of ingenious and being one that doesn’t have a whole lot of storage space, well lets just say its worth every last penny and I absolutely love it.

The 2nd silicone revolution is here and my kitchen is seeing some legitimate improvements because of it. I cant wait to see what they come up with next with this amazing material.

5 Stars all the way!!

5 Stars Best colander ever
I had this saved in my cart for a couple of weeks before I finally decided to get it. I’m glad I did. It’s by far the best colander ever. It’s very solid and sturdy when in use. And it actually fits in my cabinet without having to jamb the door closed. I love it!!

5 Stars Very nice!
Great colander, does exactly what it is supposed to - strain things and steam things and save space by being collapsible. The handles are a heavy duty metal with plastic grips, so there is no fear in the colander tipping from side to side when holding a heavy amount of pasta inside of it. I also like that the holes are small, so there is less chance pasta is going to escape out of the bottom. I always hated when I would drain my pasta in my last colander while it was sitting in the sink because pasta would sneak through the bottom holes and touch the sink. Ick! It collapses nicely, I always have to mess with it for a second to get it to collapse correctly, though. No big deal. I have liked every Oxo product I have ever bought, and this is no exception!

5 Stars PERFECT!
I am so glad that I bought this. It saves me from scrubbing the stuck on pasta from the bottom of the pans.

It is great for all sizes of pasta, except lasagna. I also bought the smaller one with the long handle - which is perfect for small things like boxes of mac & cheese.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Easy to use, so far no cons
I received this yogurt maker as a Christmas gift and just finished my first batch (eating it that is :). My only other experience with yogurt makers has been w/ the kind found in Belgium (glass jars, don’t have to boil milk, just mix, pour and incubate). I plan to update the review after a few more batches, but for now I wanted to point a few positive things I noted when making it.

1. You do not need to heat the milk — I read the instructions in the mini-recipe booklet that Eurocuisine included and found that instead of heating I can just let the milk I use (42oz organic whole milk) just warm to room temperature and its sufficient.

2. You have many options to use as a starter culture — I chose to use Nancy’s plain yogurt with “billions of live cultures” from Safeway. — used one jar full (ie: 6ozs)

3. Added a spoonful of plain white sugar per jar (so 7) into the mix. — this amount was just an experiment, but turned out to be great.

4. Stir and pour into each jar.

5. Incubate for 8 hours, then cover w/ lids and place in fridge for a minimum of 3hours.

A few things, 36 oz of milk would have been more appropriate (I had extra mixture) and I highly advise letting the yogurt cool in the fridge for the suggested 3 hours as it firms up the yogurt.

The resulting yogurt was pretty delicious. Pretty smooth, a bit creamy/sweet with just that slight tart taste of plain yogurt. The amount of sugar was just about perfect. There was a bit of lumpiness to the yogurt, which I have attributed to insufficient mixing of the yogurt starter with the milk on my part.

Overall the process was quick and simple to make the yogurt. I think it took me maybe 10 minutes to measure, mix, pour and start the machine.

The maker is easy to clean, as are the jars and lids - wipe down the maker, rinse the lid off and toss the jars/lids into the dishwasher.

I’m about to start my next batch using more or less the same method, however I will use my own yogurt as a starter, and I’m going to see about adding some vanilla to the mix. After a few more experimental batches I’ll let you know how things go!

1 Stars Can not heat enough in winter
I live in Phoenix and I purchased this machine in July. You know Phoenix is so hot in summer. So when I made my yogurt in summer months and when i got perfect results, I thought it was the machine. Then winter came. And Phoenix winter is not that cold. But of course my apartment was colder than summer months. Then my results got poorer. I thought machine was supposed to keep the yogurt at the same heat all the time to prevent it from outside effects.

Now this machine only ends up with yogurt soup, and recently after i washed the machine, it stopped working. But I had to wash it since milk spills on the base all the time.

5 Stars Makes perfect yogurt
This yogurt maker works perfectly. The jars are so convenient to just pop on the lids when the yogurt is ready and stick them in the fridge. Then I grab and go to have breakfast at my desk. I bought extra jars so that I can have more yogurt made as my boyfriend and I both eat it every day. I use the YoGourmet yogurt starter and it works great. I like my yogurt pretty firm and tangy (like Greek yogurt) so I set it for 12 hours. I make up a batch when I get home from work (takes 10 minutes at most) and then set it and leave until morning. When I get up in the morning I stick the jars in the fridge.

I saw one reviewer say they don’t get good yogurt in Winter. She or He must be doing something wrong because I live in the mountains of Colorado and keep my house pretty cool (around 60 degrees) and have NO trouble. I highly recommend this yogurt maker, if for no other reason than the jars are so convenient and reusable (so green!)

5 Stars Exactly what I wanted!
I researched all over the Internet for yogurt makers before deciding to purchase this one. For a long time I’ve been making my own yogurt, but this machine speeds it up greatly. I make a batch before I go to bed, and can set the timer for exactly how long I want the yogurt to incubate. The individual containers, timer, and brand reputation were my major selling points, and it was exactly as advertised. I love not being a slave to the supermarket or to my stove now!

5 Stars 2 machines
Accidentally ordered two of the machine sets

and like it so much we are keeping both.

Made two batches so far with just store

whole milk and starter. Came out very

tangy In 7 hours but is superb with guava jelly.

Like an earlier post mentioned you have

to get the yogurt out as soon as the light

goes out or it will continue to cook.

Like the separate little jars so the rest of

the batch stays nice and clean if you just

want to eat a spoonful or two from one jar.

Noticed VitaMix has some really great

yogurt smoothie recipes we will be sure

to try out.

Got the yogurt cheese maker also and

put only one jar in it. It worked really

fast and drained below the level of the

cheese - so the cheese did not sit in the

whey. Soft cream cheese spreadable

but yogurt taste. Great with guava jelly.

Finally, the perfect Tongs for use with nonstick cookware. These OXO GOOD GRIPS Tongs feature the sturdy stainless steel construction and soft grips you expect, with nylon heads you need to protect your cookware. The nylon heads are heat resistant to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lock the Tongs in the closed position for convenient storage. Not only do these 9-inch tongs cushion hands and provide thumb rests, which are useful when gripping heavy objects, but the nylon heads won’t scratch nonstick cookware. Doubling as a hang loop, a tab on the bottom pulls out to lock the stainless-steel tongs shut, allowing them to slip easily into a drawer. The nylon heads are heat-resistant to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and the tongs are dishwasher-safe. –Ann Bieri

5 Stars Awesome Tongs!
These are great for the kitchen and the nylon heads are very safe when using teflon-coated pans. The locking feature is very easy to use and the length is perfect for turning foods on the stove or in the oven. Using a fork pierces the food and allows the juices to run out, while the tongs preserve the food flavor. I use these almost every day and they’ve held up very well and clean-up is a breeze. A great Oxo product!

5 Stars Oxo Tongs
My daughter-in-law had a pair of these tongs in her kitchen when I visited her and my son recently and I really liked them. It makes it so much easier to turn over a piece of meat or anything w/o leaving half of the item in the pan! Upon returning home, I immediately ordered them. Still love them!

5 Stars Great tongs
These are everything you want from Nylon tongs. People complain about them melting on high heat or on certain types of cookware. I don’t know about everyone, but the whole point of buying Nylon Tongs is to not scratch non-stick cookware. Hence you should only use it with non-stick cookware - where these work wonderfully. Why would you use this on cast iron?! Don’t do that! You will ruin the nylon edges of the tongs. Just common sense if you ask me. My only complaint is that the inside of the arms might be hard to clean cause its essentially a U shaped gutter. Food can sometimes get stuck on the inside and cleaning it might take some extra effort. Other than that its perfect.

5 Stars Such a huge help!
I just bought my first pair of good cooking tongs EVER. I can’t believe I did without a pair of these for so long. For years, I had been occasionally using (I’m actually embarrassed to say) a little 5″ long plastic Tupperware freebee pair of tongs. I really only used them to lift hot dogs out of a saucepan of water. (We don’t eat hot dogs any longer! Healthy eating progressed, also.) Those worked horribly, being flexible plastic and crappy; normally the hot dogs would just slip right out of them and splash back into the water. Frustrating. Well, since I had that previous experience, I can REALLY appreciate these Oxo Tongs. They are really great. I mostly use them now for turning boneless, skinless chicken thighs over in the skillet. They are really hard to turn over without tongs, and usually want to just flip back before you get them turned all the way over, but with these tongs, it’s a snap to turn them right over, and fast. Since other people have mentioned the nylon tips melting, I’m really careful to try to not let them touch the cooking surface of the pan, or for very long if they do. I also don’t cook on really high heat; I use stainless steel cookware, and my cooking is all done below the medium mark. I certainly wouldn’t try using these to turn or lift anything out of a hot dish from the oven. I really appreciate that these lock in the closed position so you can store them in the drawer with as little space taken up as possible.

5 Stars I use them everyday!
I have two of these and I use them everyday! Locking feature helps save space on the counter and storage.

Smart enough to have made it onto a national TV morning show, this innovative design makes you wonder why it took someone this long to invent it! And that the people at OXO should be the ones will come as no surprise. As you pour into this measuring cup you don’t have to scrunch down to eye level, or gingerly lift the cup to see if you’ve got the right amount. An angled inner rim with markings allows you to read the increments as you look down from the top.A brilliant innovation, this 2-cup measuring vessel is not round but oval. That means calibrations are printed on the cup’s sides, as is conventional, as well as on a patented guide inside the cup that’s angled so it can be read from above. The result is that this cup doesn’t have to be held up–or bent down to–in order to determine how much liquid it contains. While Oxo guarantees satisfaction with a money-back guarantee, there’s no reason to return this product. It’s better than any other measuring cup. Moreover, it has a slip-resistant handle for when hands are wet, and it’s made of rugged, dishwasher-safe plastic, with calibrations in both standard measurements and metric. –Fred Brack

4 Stars Extremly Useful
I have very little space to move around in and this product allows me to not have to bend over to see the level. It being plastic is an advantage for me, but I can see where glass would be better for a more varied use.

5 Stars exactly what i was looking for
light-weight and easy-to-read from all angles, microwavable and dishwasher-safe… purchased for my elderly, disabled family member that uses it on a daily basis for her feeding tube feedings and it works really well for her.

5 Stars Good cup
I can’t add much to what has already been said, but i felt like saying something. This is a wonderful product. The quality expected from OXO and the ease of use of the slanted measurements. Definitely a good buy.

5 Stars Great Product!
This oxo measuring cup makes measuring so easy and convenient with the measurements showing on the inside of the cup as well as the sides of the cup (like normal measuring cups). It makes cooking/baking a lot easier for the kids too. I wish it was a little heavier (it’s a light plastic), but otherwise, great product for any kitchen!

5 Stars xmas present
I have one of these cups and love it. I bought it a a christmas present for my sister.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Fab!
Looks good, knives are sharp and good quality, price would be a good price for knives alone!

4 Stars Awesome counter accessory
This knife holder is a brilliant conversation piece and kitchen counter accessory for those with a good sense of humor. Since I got it (a birthday present from my mother, who said she saw it and knew it was SO me), everyone who comes by laughs and comments on it. It’s a little sick, maybe, but it’s funny, and it’s a great knife holder. The knives themselves are good but not amazing — I still use my Henckels chef’s knife when I need serious cutting action. But these are more than suitable for basic knife needs. Of course, you buy this set for its aesthetic appeal, not the quality of the knives. The build of the holder itself is plain old plastic, but it seems sturdy enough. Plastic sleeves for the knives to rest in come out of the back of the holder, and they must be magnetized or something so that the blades sort of hover in place, which is cool. This set is a must for anyone with some space on their kitchen counter and a good sense of humor — this thing is the centerpiece of my kitchen!

2 Stars “Fun” but not very Functional
The knife block is fun, at least insofar as it warrants some comments when new visitors come over for a party. However, once the novelty wears off it can’t compete with a nice “boring” wood knife block.

The knives you get are the only knives you’ll use with it. Want to use two “Chef” knives or a fatter cleaver? Sure. But you’ll need to get another block. Want to get some steak knives? Sure. But you’ll need another block. (If someone was really industrious they could add new slots with a Dremel cutting wheel… but that’s a poor digression.)

The knives themselves are basic and non-special: the feel/weight is wrong, and they are far too fat with really wide-ground edges — at least they are “stainless steal”, right? For the same price (perhaps with a bit of scouting) one could pick up a much better “starter” from J.A. Henckels (although sadly the entry-level “German made” Twin Star Friodur line seems to have been given the boot) or a number of other manufactures: get a knife set designed to be a knife set, not a gimmick.

To get the knives to rest right they have to be “lifted up” as they are inserted (or usually, *after* they are fully inserted) to engage the magnets. I really don’t like putting these knives back. Even pretending it is your “Ex” only goes so far. The plastic legs have “snapped open” on a few occasions. It can be snapped back together, sure, but it shouldn’t happen to begin with.

And the knife-block itself simply takes up too much space. Some “compact” 30 piece knife sets take up less space. This knife holders definitely makes more of a “gag” than a truly functional piece of a kitchen. Sadly, once the novelty wears off this piece of China-molded plastic is destined for a few million years of landfill life.

(If you do want something for the novelty, consider something smaller and perhaps more useful like the “Fred” toothpick holder; at the very least, buy this item for yourself — because then you’ll have at least $60 of some vested “want” in it — and not a gift for someone else.)

5 Stars Great product, with care.
I ordered this a couple years ago, saw it once and had to have it. It is indeed a great conversational piece. The plastic stand is sub-par standard, though nothing has damaged or broke in the time I’ve had mine; it feels cheap. I wish it was made of a metal or wood. I fear that one bump off the counter would break a few things. That being said, the design is fantastic:

- The magnets that clip the knives in place are actually quite strong (and are located at the top of each “wound”), so your knives wont be dulling by rubbing against any additional surfaces in storage (via sliding in/out of the stand).

- The plastic knife holders that are fitted onto the back of the model are sturdy and have a notch near the end to ensure they wont be slipping out or are held improperly.

- The knives themselves are good quality. Not the best, but they’re sturdy and extremely sharp. With proper maintenance and love, these will last awhile. In other words, I wouldn’t recommend running them through the dishwasher. Rather, hand wash, dry thoroughly and sharpen from time to time and they’ll stay pristine.

As stated previously, just be careful; it’s both an art piece and a functional part of your kitchen.

Great investment for those who don’t take these things so seriously, and have a sense of humor.

4 Stars Good knifes
It is a very unique looking knifeholder not like the allover woodenblocks. The knifes are very good for the price. I have a small kitchen so be aware the item is big, but i really like the look. The only thing is, i wish i had spend the $20 dollars more for the stainless steel holder, the black one looks a little cheap.
